The Pro-Choice Brain Confusion
Clip from a recent talk
The following clip is taken from a talk I gave last month for a pro-life organization in Canada, in which I discussed several different arguments. This part of the talk focused on the pro-choice argument rooted in the idea that rational processes are fully constituted by the brain’s materiality; consequently, the presence of the brain itself bestows a rational identity upon the entire organism. The pro-choicer then argues that abortion is justified for the unborn without brains, as they lack such an identity. However, this view is ontologically flawed, as discussed in the clip.
A related article will soon be released that will further articulate the major critique introduced here and provide a preferred, alternative ontology.
Enjoy!
